The data your GPS logger can't see.

One sentence: KAN_1 is a CAN logger for the gen-2 GR86 / BRZ that reads the factory bus and puts real driver inputs on your footage.

Why01

Your car measures it. Nothing you own reads it.

The reason the project happened. A GPS logger infers from position; it cannot measure what your hands and feet did. Video shows the corner but not the inputs. Meanwhile the ECU has gear, throttle, brake and steering on the bus every few milliseconds, and none of it reaches the tools people actually use at a track day.

Plain, unencrypted, engineering units, with both time_s and utc columns. No account, no cloud, no export queue. Ignore the tools entirely if you want to.

Trust05

It physically cannot transmit to your car.

The trust argument. The transmit line is cut in copper, not disabled in firmware — an open solder jumper in series with CAN TX, held recessive by a pull-up on the transceiver side. The free DIY builds ship with a real warning about corrupting the bus. The usual answer is to promise the firmware won't. That's a promise. This is a gap in a trace, and you can close it yourself with an iron if you ever want to.

Render · rev C · not a photograph

What the legend on the board says, and why it was written to be legible in a photograph. The transceiver's standby pin is tied to ground, so there is no software route to silence it either way — the jumper is the only hard guarantee on the board.
