Track day data your GPS logger can't see.

Your current track data sucks. KAN_1 solves that.
KAN_1 is a CANBUS logger for the GR86 / BRZ Gen 2 that reads the factory bus at up to 100x faster than an OBD2 dongle, and lets you overlay and review real data and driver inputs.

Why01

Track day data is broken. Data logging is broken. Data overlays are broken. Data review is broken.

This is why I built KAN_. So much about consumer track data is complicated, expensive, built in the early 2000s, or hard to use in so many ways. OBD2 data is slow, subject to Bluetooth issues and ends up rolling around your feet after the first kerb. Expensive GPS timers only know GPS and IMU data points, with no vehicle data, and are closed off systems. Trying to review your data on a phone screen between sessions is painful. Once you get home, creating a video to review or post your lap is a 100 step process, with dated systems that feel generations behind before you even try to match your footage to your data. Enough was enough, so I solved it.

All clips and data you see on this page are real, logged data from a session at Queensland Raceway. Here are some of the data points you can expect to see, pulled directly from a log file and matched overlays. All of it is UTC time-synced, extracted through the free online tool I built, which keeps every file on your own machine, in your browser. Your data, your privacy — free, no signup, and nothing you load ever leaves your machine.

Introducing KAN_PITWALL — the apex to KAN_'s corner, be it deep review or quick export.

KAN_PITWALL is the web-based software to help you go fast and/or make pretty videos. Without it, KAN_ is an admittedly very nice piece of hardware. Given the ethos of KAN_, you can use as little or as many of the tools I provide as you like — it's always yours, and so is your data. Oh, and have I said the software is free?

Generate your video overlays

Gauges, traces and driver inputs rendered over your footage, no matter the source, aligned on GPS UTC rather than lining it up by eye. Free, in the browser.

Way 02 · the one that finds time

Review your data

Scrub the traces against the track map, lap by lap. Adjust the start/stop location, or read elapsed time between any two points. Free, in the browser, nothing uploaded.

Way 03 · the one that outlives me

Export your CSV

Plain, unencrypted, engineering units, with both time_s and utc columns. No account, no cloud, no export queue. Ignore the tools entirely if you want to.

It physically cannot transmit to your car.

CANBUS can be a scary thing, so to be sure that KAN_ never interferes with the bus, it isn't only software locked — the transmit pin is physically disconnected by a solder jumper. That makes KAN_ a "listen only" device. Sleep soundly knowing that no matter what, no signals will ever flood the bus. And it taps in at the ASC connector behind the glove box — tucked up out of the footwell, not another dongle rolling around by your feet.
